Circus Chic

I can't wait to see Reese Witherspoon's new film Water for Elephants which is in theatres April 22nd and is based on the book of the same name by Sara Gruen.  She looks gorgeous in the trailer and also in the May 2011 issue of Vogue along side and top of some pretty pachyderms.  Rob Pattinson doesn't look too shabby either! Reese is one of those women that other women root for in life and it was nice to see pick herself up and find even greater happiness after her divorce.  If she can do it, so can we!

Entertainment News: Water For Elephants

I loved the book, Water For Elephants, and cannot wait to see the movie ~ In theaters April 22nd. Starring Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattison and Christoph Waltz, it's sure to entertain.
Based on the acclaimed bestseller, WATER FOR ELEPHANTS presents an unexpected romance in a uniquely compelling setting. Veterinary school student Jacob meets and falls in love with Marlena, a star performer in a circus of a bygone era. They discover beauty amidst the world of the Big Top, and come together through their compassion for a special elephant. Against all odds -- including the wrath of Marlena's charismatic but dangerous husband, August -- Jacob and Marlena find lifelong love.

Best of 2010 : Betty White ~ Entertainer of the Year

What has Betty White not been in this year? From hosting SNL, a guest part on Community, Ryan Reynolds' Grandmother on The Proposal, to many more. The 88 year old actress has been named Entertainer of the Year by the Associated Press and is at the top of my list as well. Go Betty!
Remember this Snickers commercial during the Super Bowl?

My favorite role that Betty has played has to be Sue Ann Nivens

Last year's post on this day: It's a Wonderful Life

Everything's Coming Up Daisy

It was interesting to hear that Carey Mulligan was just selected by Baz Luhrman to play Daisy Buchanan in his new adaption of The Great Gatsby.  The 1974 version staring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow is considered to be a classic so it seems a little weird that Baz Luhrmann would remake it at all.  I'm curious to see if Ms. Mulligan and Leonardo DiCaprio, who will be playing Jay Gatsby, can live up the original.  What do you think?

Burlesque with Cher and Christina

I cannot wait for "Burlesque" to open on November 24th. With the cast of Cher, Christina Aguilera, Eric Dane and Stanley Tucci, it will certainly entertain!

The King's Speech

I'm a sucker for period movies, especially those with English accents and even more so, those staring Colin Firth.  So what happens when an English accent of character played by Firth in a period film is accompanied by a stammer?  That is the story of The King's Speech which opens November 26th.  Prince George, The Duke of York was second in line to the throne behind his brother so his stammer wouldn't really have been as big of a problem had his brother not abdicated the throne to marry Wallis Simpson.  (Madonna is making a film about that story.) After his brother abdicates, George ('Bertie') reluctantly assumes the throne as King George VI. Because his stutter has called into question his ability to rule, he and Elizabeth I engage the help of an unorthodox speech therapist named Lionel Logue. "Through a set of unexpected techniques, and as a result of an unlikely friendship, Bertie is able to find his voice and boldly lead the country through war." George VI and Elizabeth are the parents of reigning Queen Elizabeth II and it will be interesting to see her childhood during the war.  There are already rumors that this film will earn Colin Firth an Oscar just as The Queen earned Helen Mirren her statue.  I think it's safe to say that The Academy is also a sucker for an English accent.

Space Age Interior

The Illustrated Man, a very unusual movie from 1969, features a great space age interior set. What where they smoking? That's what you will think when you start this movie, but hang in there and you will be rewarded with this fantastic all-white modern sixties interior. The modern space age house of the future has a special virtual reality room in which people can transfer back (or forward) to any time. The movie has plenty psychedelic moments over a difficult to understand story line. A must-see cult icon for die hard space age fans. You can currently view the movie on Netflix "Play on Computer".

Great for fans of Eero Aarnio, Harry Bertoia, Wendell Castle, Joe Colombo, Curtis Jerre, Guzzini, Arne Jacobsen, Laurel, Erwin and Estelle Laverne, Ueli Berger and Eleanora Peduzzi Riva, Martinelli Luce, Neal Small, Olivier Mourgue, Eero Saarinen, Verner Panton, Space Age, Kartell, etc.
